Sabine Wren, a spirited rebel from Mandalore’s far-off world, once donned the garb of an optimistic Imperial cadet. Her creative genius and mastery over technology enabled her to craft a device capable of melting Mandalorian armor. Unbeknownst to her, this invention would fall into the Empire’s hands, transforming it into an instrument of tyranny against her own kin. This act of treachery deeply wounded her conscience, leaving her burdened with remorse.
Sabine’s path led her from abandoning the Empire to the life of a bounty hunter and eventually to aligning herself with a group of rebels under the leadership of Jedi Kanan Jarrus. During her journey, she unearthed and took back the Darksaber, a revered weapon of her people, and entrusted it to Bo-Katan Kryze, a symbol of unity for the Mandalorians.
Her tale further unraveled in “The Mandalorian” during its second and third seasons, and now, in “Ahsoka,” her mission focuses on locating her missing companion, Ezra Bridger. The resurgence of Thrawn, a formidable antagonist, ignites hope that Ezra may have survived his vanishing into hyperspace. Sabine’s multifaceted personality, marked by guilt, resolve, and a yearning for justice, is brought to life in a live-action portrayal by Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Is Sabine a Jedi?
Sabine’s inability to wield the Force doesn’t diminish her status as a Jedi. Ahsoka recognizes this truth, as she has chosen to mentor Sabine as her Padawan once more. Others might object to this, notably Baylan, a fallen Jedi consumed by the pursuit of power. His disdain for a Jedi as seemingly powerless as Sabine is shared by his apprentice Shin. However, they are likely to rue this misjudgment by the conclusion of Ahsoka.
